Essential Oils to use for Restful Sleep
Lavender – “University of Miami researchers found that inhalation of lavender oil increased beta waves in the brain, suggesting heightened relaxation.” (EODR 3rd edition). Lavender is known to be calming, relaxing and balancing both physically and emotionally. It can be applied to the heart, temples, wrists or bottom of the feet or diffused to help promote a sense of relaxation that helps most people fall asleep in about 15 minutes. This is my first choice oil when I have eaten something that contains caffeine or I just can’t seem to fall asleep for some reason.
Peace and Calming – This oil blend “promotes relaxation and a deep sense of peace and emotional well-being, helping to dampen tensions and uplift spirits. When massaged on the bottom of the feet, it can be a wonderful prelude to a peaceful night’s rest. It may calm overactive and hard-to-manage children.” (EODR 3rd edition) This oil blend is a combination of blue tansy, patchouli, tangerine, orange, and ylang ylang oils.
Valerian – This single oil is known as “sedative and tranquilizing to the central nervous system.” (EODR 3rd edition) If someone uses the other 2 oils mentioned above and still has trouble sleeping, this oil should be used. It is commonly used for sleep issues and can help people sleep well.
