How to Make Easy Homemade Hand Purifier with Essential Oils
I love sharing this simple DIY hand purifier spray recipe that you can use for the whole family. This recipe is easy to make and easy to throw into your purse or backpack and carry with you.
Sometimes you don’t have easy access to soap and hot water, or you want something that contains essential oils instead. At times like this having an essential oil spray on hand is just what you need.
What About Commercial Hand Sanitizers?
I’m not a fan of the commercial hand sanitizers because of all the chemicals that they contain. Many natural practitioners also talk about how using a sanitizer actually kills weak bacteria but makes strong bacteria even stronger.
Look up triclosan, which is in almost all commercial hand sanitizers, and see why you don’t want it on your family’s skin. I don’t see the need to use harsh chemicals to keep our hands clean.
Make sure you don’t give up washing hands with soap and warm water because it can be very effective. This recipe is mostly for when you’re out and about and don’t have access to water.
Make Your Own Hand Purifier
Here’s My Homemade Hand Purifier Spray Recipe:
In a 2 or 4-ounce spray bottle, combine:
10 drops Young Living Thieves essential oil
1/2 t salt
Fill the rest of the spray bottle with filtered water and you’re all set to go.
Screw on the cap and spray on your hands. Shake each time you use it.

Hand Cleaner Recipes with Aloe Vera
Some people prefer to have more of a gel to clean their hands. So here are some recipes you can make if you’d rather have a gel than a spray.
In a small container with a flip-top or screw-on lid, combine:
1 tablespoon Organic Aloe Vera gel
10 drops of Thieves oil
3 tablespoons of distilled water.
Use several drops on hands whenever traditional soap and water is unavailable.
This one was a little sticky to me so I’ll share some more recipes below with witch hazel instead of water.

Here is a less sticky version of hand purifier gel…

Mix and shake the ingredients together. Use whenever soap and water are not available.
The CDC recommends using at least 60% Isopropyl Alcohol in hand purifiers. Here is a hand purifier recipe with Isopropyl Alcohol.
Stronger Hand Purifier Recipe
In a small container with a lid, combine:
1 tablespoon Organic Aloe Vera gel
10 drops of Thieves oil
3 tablespoon Isopropyl Alcohol (60% or higher concentration)
Mix and shake the ingredients together. Use whenever soap and water are not available.
Young Living carries my favorite hand sanitizer. It comes in a 3 pack of convenient purse-sized sanitizers. I love the fact that they have a large refill bottle I can use to refill these smaller bottles when they get low.
Easy Hand Purifying On The Go
When I don’t have a spray or gel on hand, I sometimes just pull out my Thieves essential oil that I get from Young Living and spread that over my fingers instead. It’s a bit strong so I don’t recommend this for children because they often touch their faces and eyes.
I hope these recipes will help you choose the best hand purifier for your family. Why not make them all and see which one you like the best.
